Indoor windsurfing returns to the 2009 PWA World Tour schedule
Tuesday, 09 December 2008 09:39

PWA 2009

The PWA proudly releases the 2009 provisional World Tour calendar. With thirteen events pencilled into the schedule, all three disciplines look to have a healthy year of competition in the season that lies ahead.

Kick starting the 2009 season will be the third successive Cabo Verde men’s wave world cup (Feb 14 - Feb 21). Needing no introduction, this event sets the bar high, and the ball rolling for the 12 subsequent events.

The 2009 calendar includes two new locations, Madrid, Spain, and Reggio Calabria, Italy. Madrid returns to the PWA calendar after a lengthy break, to once again play host to windsurfing’s spectacular Indoor discipline.

Bolstering the ’09 event count, the brand new venue of Reggio Calabria will provide an additional stop for the racers in the latter half of the season.

Also changing for the coming season, Podersdorf, Austria will be switching disciplines from freestyle to racing.

The Windsurfing Movie II to be released in Spring 2010
Saturday, 06 December 2008 18:19

The Windsurfing Movie II

After the phenomenal success of what has been dubbed windsurfing’s defining film, there has been great speculation about the possibility of a sequel to The Windsurfing Movie being produced.

However, rumour can be cast aside as word is now officially out. The Windsurfing Movie Two is going ahead. Fronted by the same award winning team from Poor Boyz Productions, the double act of cinematic masterminds, Jonny Decasare and Jace Panebianco have already set to work on TWM2.

Production started recently in Maui, with a forecasted release date being pencilled in for spring 2010. Though the finer details of the project are still to be confirmed, Quatro International have pledged their support towards the movie. No surprises then that windsurfing’s king of style, Levi Siver will again team up with the Poorboyz windsurfing team.

RS:X Youth World Championships postponed to 2009
Thursday, 04 December 2008 16:34

RS:X Class

The 2008 RS:X Youth World Championships will now take place between January 10th and 19th 2009 on condition that competitors from 10 countries and 3 continents have registered by December 24th 2008. Age restrictions remain the same as they were for the event as originally scheduled.

Thanks to Neil Pryde Windsurfing, charter equipment remains on site so those with confirmed reservations still do not have to bring their gear.

We are aware that this decision will not please everyone. For those who wished the event to be postponed until later in the New Year, the class plans to stage the 2009 Open Youth European Championships in April.

The 2009 RS:X Youth World Championship will be staged from July 25th to August 1st in Turkey (subject to contract)

In the discussions with MNAs and coaches surrounding the re-scheduling of the 2008 RS:X Youth World Championship, it has become apparent that there is a demand for more youth regattas internationally.

We will therefore be making a submission to the 2009 RS:X Annual General Meeting to make the staging of annual Open Youth European Championships an official class policy.

In the meantime, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage regatta organizers everywhere to get behind RS:X Youth Windsurf racing and include a division for RS:X Youth boys and girls in their regattas as Sail Melbourne have just done.

Robert Meistrell was a passionate diver and, above all, a waterman. Personal submarines were also part of his list of hobbies. He even discovered a gold coin treasure in a paddle wheel steamer that sunk off Crescent City, California.
