Shark Island Challenge: is Jason Finlay going for it?

The 2014 Shark Island Challenge will have a waiting period of six months.

The 18th edition of the Shark Island Challenge will be surfed in the best two days of swell over the winter months, in Australia.

The event is one of the most infamous bodyboarding competitions in the world and will get underway between May and October 2014, only 100 meters from Cronulla Point, in southern Sydney.

Twenty bodyboarders will be invited this year to compete in the 2014 Shark Island Challenge. Local athletes such as Andrew Lester, Josh Kaihe, Alex Leon, Sam Strachan to name a few will be challenging the likes of the planet's best riders.

Ben Player, Dave Winchester, Mitch Rawlins, Pierre Louis Costes, Jeff Hubbard, Mike Stewart , Ryan Hardy, Jase Finlay, Jared Houston, and Guilherme Tamega have been confirmed.

The sharp, treacherous surf reef has broken spines and lacerated bodies. Are riders willing to take the risk? The 2014 Shark Island Challenge an internationally sanctioned specialty event on the APB World Tour.

Rob Bain, Layne Beachley, and Dave Macaulay have taken out the Azores Airlines World Masters Championship in the Grand Masters, Women's Masters and Men's Masters divisions held in good three-foot surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.
