The waves were on and off today like the weather - hot and sunny one minute and cold and rainy the next! There were plenty of barrels to pull in to - but not everyone made it out.

The competition was fierce, sometimes palpable from the beach; Competitors were fighting for the best position and a hopeful "gem" that might carry them through to the next round. Standouts of today included previous world champion Claudia Ferrari,Daniela Freitas- Ronqullio, Moe Watanabe, Karla Costa Taylor, and Big Island's Lindsay Yasui.

Neymara Carvalho (USA) was the only competitor to score a perfect ten point ride in today's competition. Tara Parsons and Miya Inoue were also on fire, and now face off in the quarters later this week depending on the swell.

Many of the competitors spoke out on behalf of Culturalization, the Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi, and contest director, Betty Depolito's vision. The competitors all expressed their happiness to be a part of a huge contest that not only supports female athletes but also the environment.
