Jared Houston and Alexandra Rinder have conquered the 2015 Arica Chilean Challenge, at El Gringo, Chile.

The South African bodyboarder faced two-time world champion Amaury Lavernhe in the decisive final, held in outstanding wave conditions. There were plenty of barrels and ramps to be attacked.

In the first five minutes, Lavernhe nailed two excellent scores to collect a total of 18.00 points. The situation looked difficult for his opponent, but Houston pulled an 8.50 backflip and a huge 9.50 invert to tie the match.

However, Houston's highest wave would decide the winner of the 2015 Arica Chilean Challenge. It was a dramatic decision in a splendid heat.

"Today's win was easily the most gratifying of my career! My performance during this whole event has been a true breakthrough for me as a rider and it culminated today in the final when I was able to come from behind and take the win over Amaury Lavernhe after being comboed from the very start," said Houston.

"It proved to me that nothing is impossible and that things are possible when you set your mind to them. I'll never forget this moment. It's all still pretty surreal!

In the Women's division, Rinder defeated three-time world champion Isabela Sousa. The bodyboarder from the Canary Islands surfed a near-perfect final with her flips giving her a total heat score of 19.15 points.

"I'm so happy to say that I'm the winner of the 2015 Arica Chilean Challenge! This was always a wave I was looking forward to compete in and today, after having a hard final against Isabela Sousa, I finish with the first place!" added Rinder.
