Amaury Lavernhe suffered a shocking early exit at the 2015 Sintra Portugal Pro.

The 2015 APB World Tour rankings leader finished third in Round 4, and he is out of the competition being held in Praia Grande. The bodyboarder from Reunion Island was eliminated by Israel Salas and Anas Hadar.

"I'm frustrated with the way I lost. If I lose because my opponents surfed better than me it's easier to face, but what happened was that I could not find the waves against Israel Salas and Anas Hadar, who are very dangerous in these conditions," expressed Lavernhe.

"I just want Nazare to start tomorrow! I'm very excited to come back to compete in the Open division and recover from this disposal here in Sintra."

Lavernhe leaves the world title race open to Uri Valadão, Jared Houston and Lewy Finnegan. But there were also a few surprises in the Women's competition.

Portuguese bodyboarding stars Marta Leitao, Catarina Sousa and Teresa Almeida advanced through while Neymara Carvalho finished fourth in Round 4.

"The highlight of today´s competition was a heat between three world champions: Isabela, Neymara and Teresa. Fortunately, I was able to get first place. Next heat will be an all-Portuguese elimination round between my athletes, Teresa and Marta and me," added Catarina Sousa.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
