The Association of Professional Bodyboarding (APB) has confirmed that the Itacoatiara Pro 2016 will be run between June 16th-26th, in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The third event on the 2016 APB Tour is the first with a 4-Star rating, and it will showcase three competitive divisions: Men, Women, and Pro Junior.

Itacoatiara is one of the heaviest and most challenging waves in the country of samba. The contest will be surfed for the fifth consecutive year and, according to the APB, it will be broadcasted online.

On the women's competition, the European champion Joana Schenker will likely get in the way of Alexandra Rinder and Isabela Sousa. This year, the girls' agenda includes six stages.

The Brazilian riders will have an advantage at Itacoatiara, but the defending event champion Amaury Lavernhe is ready for the tight clashes. The French bodyboarder is currently sitting in ninth place, and hopes to climb the rankings.

"The contest last year was really physical as we had some massive conditions. I have already commenced my training so I will arrive in shape and feel comfortable if the waves are big," said Lavernhe, who has been training in the Canary Islands.

Sixteen qualifiers and two wildcards will join the Men's Top 30 at Itacoatiara.
