Mike Stewart and Dudu Pedra have defied the giant waves of Praia do Norte, in Nazaré, Portugal.
The Hawaiian legend and the Brazilian charger paddled out at the iconic beach break and enjoyed the peak of the swell that hit the Portuguese coast in early October.
When Mike Stewart knew that the APB Tour had called the Nazaré Pro 2016 off for the day, he adventured himself in the big wave surf spot without jet ski assist.
The 53-year-old bodyboarder got past the incoming 10-to-15-foot broken waves and managed to reach the line-up by his own means. When he got there, he waited for the right sets and caught the bombs.
Stewart and Pedra ended up staying in the water for a couple of hours. The Brazilian bodyboarder from Itacoatiara stated that it was a "historic day." Stewart said he had "some exciting times" in Nazaré
The nine-time world bodyboarding champion is a regular face at Pipeline's Second Reef, and at Phantoms, and big waves are not new in his life.
The waterman from Honolulu even had the opportunity to perform a few laid-back 360s on a wave's lip before dropping into the blue abyss. The liquid mountains were breaking in the 18-to-25-foot range.
The bodyboarders had company. Maya Gabeira, Sebastian Steudtner, and Tom Butler were also catching a few bombs on surfboards, and get ready for the 2016/2017 big wave surfing season.
