Learn how to keep your bodyboard waterproof by sealing off the slick (bottom), the deck (top), the rails (side edges), and the nose.
Rocks, sharp corals, and prolonged sun exposure may damage your board. As a result, you get a heavy, non-waterproof bodyboard that won't last long.
There are different types of problems: gashes, worn-out leash anchors, rail delamination, air bubbles, and small cuts.
The most common issues can be solved with a hot melt glue kit (Cobiz 60/100W) or an ultra-flexible resin (Solarez Sponge-Rez).
Don't use super glues and other abrasive products - they will burn the board's core, and your wave-riding toy will end up in the trash can.
The goal is to protect the sponge's core and prevent it from getting waterlogged.
If you don't repair the problem, salted water will gradually deteriorate the board's polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) foam.
DIY Bodyboard Repair
Have you found a small hole in your board? No worries. Here's how to solve the problem quickly:
- Dry and clean the area around the cut or hole;
- Squeeze glue into the opening;
- Make sure it's all filled in;
- Use a flat object or credit card to smooth out the glue and make it flat;
- Scrape away the excess;
Act immediately if you find a delaminated rail in your board or a slick peeling off. It's simple:
- Peel back the rail;
- Fill in the affected area with glue;
- Press the area together;
- Wipe the excess glue and seal the seam;
- Use tape or heavyweight to hold it together for a couple of hours until the glue hardens;
