Yoshua Toledo has taken out the 2018 Arica Cultura Bodyboard Trials, at Ex-Isla del Alacrán, in Chile.

The competition got underway in splendid wave conditions. The Chilean surf break of El Flopos pumped perfect barreling waves and multiple ramps, allowing athletes to combine tube riding and aerial maneuvers.

The Trials had six spots on offer to the main event, but the level of competition was so high so that you could be watching the top 24 in action.

The qualifying event saw a few top bodyboarders falling earlier than expected. Socrates Santana, former world junior champion, was defeated by Toledo, while Patrick Orr, 2017 rookie of the year, was eliminated due to a priority interference.

Nelson Flores, the 2018 pro junior champion, was knocked out of the competition by Manuel Cepeda and Tehei Tahiri, who will both represent their countries in the main event.

In the Trials final, Yoshua Toledo smashed his opponents with a dominant display of modern bodyboarding. The Chilean riders started things off with a monstrous flip followed by a barrel and new flip.

In the end, Toledo earned two 8.75 scores from the judges and stole the show. Isaias Ravyc finished runner-up, closely followed by Tahiri and Cepeda.
