Makapuu Championships: sunny waves out there

Mapakuu offered up fun surf for all 80 competitors who came out to battle it out for the title of Makapuu Champion.

There were many standouts but none more so than Trevor Kam (Hawaii Kai,Oahu) and JB Hillen (Maili , Oahu) who both made the finals in Open Amateur and 14-18 year old Amateur divisions.

Another big all around proformance came from Jesse Walsh (Maui) who made final in Drop Knee, Open AM, 14-18 and the Stand Up Bodyboard division. Winning the Open Amateur division was Sandy Beach local Keioni Haina (Hawaii Kai, Oahu) with big backflips and clean spins.

Winner of the 14-18 AM division was JB Hiller who was surfing consitent in every heat he entered with spin to ARS combinations and other big moves. Heading into the girls-beginners division there was no shortage of talent with Summer Hillen (JB’s sister) winning he beginners division.

Into the Womens Open it was Karla Costa Taylor (Oahu) who took home the win over a narrow margin to Christina De Lima (Maui). The ever entertaining stand up division was won by Kaopuiki Kahue with clean floaters and snaps to the beach.

The Day ended with the Drop Knee Finals in which Wally Sani of (California) who nudged out Jesse Walsh to take the event.
