West Coast Classic: the South African bodyboarding jewel

The best South African bodyboarders are gearing up for the Kumba West Coast Classic 2011, to be held in Lamberts Bay, between 7th-10th April.

If everything goes well, all riders will be greeted by a perfect left and right reef break, in a deserted coast. It's the grand opening of the South African Bodyboardin Association season.

The event, one of the most important in the South African bodyboarding circuit, will be fully supported by Kumba Iron Ore and Reef South Africa, and brought up by Boland Bodyboarding.

The West Coast Classic 2011 will be held earlier than the previous year, to ensure all bodyboarders get the best surfing conditions of the region. The event has an extra day, in case a larger window period is needed.

The precise location for competition is still to be announced, but will surely be chosen an area from Lamberts Bay to a few kilometres south. Last year’s Pro division and IBA World Tour competitor Mark McCarthy will not be able to attend to defend his title, so this year’s Pro division title is up for grabs.

A development clinic will also be organized this year. All local kids will have the chance to have fun, enjoy the ocean and the waves like pros do.

Bjorn Dunkerbeck and Philippe Bru have teamed up to open the Dunkerbeck Pro Center, in the Lac Bay Lagoon on the island of Bonaire, in the Dutch Caribbean.
