Pipe Challenge: saving the greatest bodyboarding event

The International Bodyboarding Association has confirmed that the 2013 Pipe Challenge will run a Specialty Event managed locally by Ben Severson and Jason Bitzer.

Alex Leon, IBA World Tour manager, is trying to save the honor of the 30th Pipe Challenge, in Hawaii. The lack of financial support from the industry is threatening the most important event in professional bodyboarding.

At this time, riders to compete at the infamous Hawaii Pipeline for prize money, not for IBA World Tour points, from February 16th to March 1st. There will be Men's, Women's and Drop Knee divisions in the water.

"Irrespective of the outcome, the IBA would like to thank the large and passionate bodyboard community for the positive efforts by the majority of followers to work towards an outcome in light of the situation with the 2013 Pipe Challenge", says Alex Leon.

"The support from industry companies has also been overwhelming and appreciated. It was the positive actions of the bodyboarding community that will ensure an event will be held at Pipe in the original event window".

The 2013 Pipe Challenge can still be re-instated to the original GSS World Tour status. Numerous last minute sponsorship discussions are taking place on the back of the wide spread and positive support of the world bodyboarding community.
