Amaury Lavernhe: come fly away with him

The 2013 IBA GoPro Arica Chilean Challenge kicks off on the 17th May, in Arica, Chile, at the infamous El Gringo bodyboarding spot.

The third stop of the 2013 IBA World Tour is a Grand Slam Series events, which means there's a lot at stake. With $40,000 in prize money and 2000 points for the winner, Chile is a must.

Moreover, the Arica Chilean Challenge is celebrating its 10th anniversary and all riders will be trying to claim the trophy, in front of thousands of hardcore bodyboarding fans.

The top five bodyboarders are only separated by less than 500 points in the GoPro GSS Ratings and the Arica leg plays an important role, as more than two thirds of the season will be completed.

Jeff Hubbard leads with 2940 points, ahead of Ben Player and Amaury Lavernhe with 2900 points. Pierre Louis Costes and Jones Russell are behind, but still very close.

The 2013 Arica Chilean Challenge Trials will be held between 17th-18th May. El Gringo is ready to pump serious barrels. Who will smile in the end? Dave Winchester is defending his 2012 title.

Surfing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will take place in the ocean, not in a wave pool. The waiting period runs from July 24 to August 9.
