Sintra Portugal Pro 2013: close out opportunity

Stephanos Kokorelis stood out in the second day of the Sintra Portugal Pro 2013, at Praia Grande, in glassy 1.5-meter waves.

The Portuguese rider from Carcavelos with only 15 years has reached Round 5 of this Global Qualifying Series (GQS) event, after beating former world champion Pierre-Louis Costes.

Kokorelis scored a total of 14,85 points in the waves of Praia Grande, against the 14,10 points gathered by the French rider.

"To be honest, I never thought I'd go this far. Initially, I knew I had to compete against Tó Cardoso and Diego Cabrera... Then I got through and, in the heat with Pierre, I simply decided to give all I've got, risk everything, eight or eighty", explains Stephanos Kokorelis.

The young rider opened his heat with a backflip, and never gave chances to Costes, who is still recovering from an injury.

Dave Hubbard is out of the prone competition. Bernardo Jerónimo, Nicolas Rosner, Manuel Centeno e Rodrigo Rijo are the Portuguese bodyboarders still up and running in the main event.

The early stages of the Women's and the Drop Knee division have already been run at The Sintra Portugal Pro 2013.
