Rio de Janeiro: unridden waves are rare

Eight riders have secured a place in the main event of the Rio Bodyboarding International 2013, after the completion of the Trials for the Men's Global Qualifying Series (GQS) stage.

The eight spots getting for Round 1 were occupied by Brazilians Amilton Junior, George Tannous, Marcyus Thompson, Luciano Cunha, Lucas Viana, Eron Melo, Rafael Cerutti and Breno Pessanha.

Highlights include Rafael Cerutti's 8.25 point wave and his combined score of 15.6 points, the highest scores at the Rio Bodyboarding International 2013 Trials.

Luciano Cunha, a local rider from Posto 5, will be one of the first deaf bodyboarders to ever compete in a major international bodyboarding event. He's through to the main event.

Rio Bodyboarding International 2013 features more than 150 bodyboarders. It is an important GQS stage for riders aiming at the 2014 IBA World Tour Grand Slam Series.
