Josh Kaihe: Shark Island challenger

Josh Kaihe has taken out the 2013 Shark Island Challenge, off Cronulla Point, in Australia.

After several delays, organizers were able to call a start to the competition when tides and swell arrived on the reef.

The local charger beat Ben Player in one of the heaviest reef waves in Australia. Some of the world's best bodyboarders competed in the event.

Despite the lack of sponsors, the 2013 Shark Island Challenge gave a lesson to the highest hierarchies of bodyboarding by holding a great contest, in a great spot.

Young Kaihe was only competing in his third event, but he managed to get better waves than his opponents. Ben Player was happy with his silver podium.

"It felt great to achieve a second in the Shark Island Challenge today. It was a really fun day and kind of makes up for the cancellation of final IBA event at Fronton. Thanks to Alex Leon for putting the event on and congratulations to Josh 'Blackie' Kaihe for the win", added Player.
