Alex Uranga has taken out the Itacoatiara Pro 2016, in Brazil. He is now second on the APB Tour rankings behind Jeff Hubbard.

The bodyboarder from the Basque Country defeated the former world champion Pierre-Louis Costes in a tight final held in six-foot surf. The waves were not big, but there were plenty of ramps for airs.

Uranga opened his account with a 7.65-point ride and backed it up later with a near-perfect 9.75 wave. Costes tried to find the right waves for his trademark backflips, but luck was not on his side.

"I feel excited. I waited a lot of time for this moment. I felt very good in the morning, and I rode a lot of waves. I will head to Arica with a lot of motivation. I don't have a plan. I just want to surf," explained Uranga.

Alex Uranga had to beat several world champions to claim the Brazilian trophy. He defeated Eder Luciano, Amaury Lavernhe, Jeff Hubbard, and then Costes to celebrate a maiden title at Itacoatiara.

On the women's side, Isabela de Sousa raised the Brazilian flag, and the crowd at the beach erupted. The two-time world champion beat Ayaka Suzuki and got her sweet revenge.

"It was funny because last year in Nazare I was in the final with Ayaka and she won there. So now it is my turn. I am really happy. Itacoatiara is an amazing place, and I am pretty happy to win here," said De Sousa.

"I love this waves. It is heavy and strong. The contest was fun, too. One week before the contest started, we had a big swell, so it was good for training. I am confident with these conditions."
