Amaury Lavernhe: enjoying the champagne hour

Amaury Lavernhe has claimed the 2013 Itacoatiara Pro, in the waves of Brazil.

The rider from the Reunion Island defeated Jeff Hubbard in the final heat of the Brazilian event, held in 4-6 foot waves. Ben Player and Lavernhe are now tied at the top of the IBA World Tour rankings.

Amaury edged out Hubbard with an amazing backflip off a heavy closeout section, which earned him the points he needed to take a stunning victory. A total of 14.76 against the Hawaiian's 13.56 points.

"It's amazing. I can't believe it's happening. I knew I had to go big to beat these guys. Jeff's been surfing really good and I am just stoked", tells the pumped Amaury Lavernhe.

"I was thinking that if I won the comp I would be tied with Ben. It was more than a dream. Now it's real. I'm so excited for the rest of the tour. I'm going for you Ben!", he added.

The fifth stop on the 2013 IBA World Tour will be the South Africa Challenge, to be surfed in Herolds Bay.
