Amaury Lavernhe: his family is right behind him

Amaury Lavernhe thought he could end the last bodyboarding season in the top five. In fact, he did a little better. He became the 2010 IBA World Tour champion and fulfilled his child dream. In a recent interview published at the IBA website, the French pro bodyboarder says he gets a lot of back support from his family.

"Two years ago I stopped university for being a professional bodyboarder. All my family was living in Reunion Island and moved to France to work and study. It was important to stay in Reunion Island and understand I wanted to be a professional bodyboarder. In the first two years it was very difficult to prove to my family that I was not joking", tells the world champion.

Lavernhe believes there should be a balance between studies, family, friends and sport. "If you really want something you have to start it very early and enjoy. It is important to realize how lucky we are to get some waves and to be in the ocean. Maybe dreams can happen".

Amaury Lavernhe will defend his world bodyboarding title from 15th February, when the 2011 IBA World Tour kicks off with the Pipeline Pro,  in Banzai Pipeline, Hawaii. Watch the full interview.
