Pearson Tully: great wave line

Lilly Pollard, Sacha Specker, Tanner McDaniel and Pearson Tully has shined brighter at the inaugural Boogie Fest, in Newcastle, Australia.

Despite the small surf, the bodyboarding event has been a successful one. Around 70 bodyboarders lined up for the one-day competition that featured Under 15, Under 17, Pro Dro-Knee and Pro Women.

The Boogie Fest also combined art, music and the surfing culture into one big bundle of fun. Eryn Leggatt, from Steel City Collective, brought artists to the beach to paint fins and boards.

Lilly Pollard scored a last-minute set to snatch victory off reigning IBA Women's world champion Isabela Sousa, in the Pro Women division, with rookies Jane Keel and Courtney Parsons keeping third and fourth.

In the Pro Dro-Knee, South African Sacha Specker was just too classy for Jimmy Lear, with Tommy-Gun Frame and Zac Sonner keep in the remaining finalists' places.

In the Under 15, Hawaiian Tanner McDaniel lived up to pre-event hype by defeating Alex McAlipne, Zac Dean and Mitch Samways. Pearson Tully outshone Anthony Thurlow, Shayden Schrader and Flynn Dunn in the Under 17 category.

"I think that we laid a great foundation for the contest. The weather was great, there was a good crowd and all in all it was an awesome event." says Terry Mckenna, Boogie Fest organizer.
