2019 Itacoatiara Pro Trials: eight bodyboarders will join the elite in the main event

Eight trialists have secured spots on the 2019 Itacoatiara Pro main event.

The finals got underway in Niterói's famous beach break with consistent and highly contestable wedge waves.

Five riders from Brazil, and single representatives from Easter Island, Australia, and Basque Country will have the chance to compete against their idols.

There will be 24 elite athletes plus eight trialists battling it out for the first podium of the season.

According to the surf forecasts, the event could run the first non-elimination rounds on Friday, June 14.

There is another push in the swell expected to hit Itacoatiara's Pampo peak in the middle of next week.

The 2019 Itacoatiara Pro is the first of five World Grand Slam (WGS) events that will crown this year's world bodyboarding champion.

The contest's waiting period closes on June 19.
