How to crown a world bodyboarding champion during a nightmare

Waves: IBA should learn how to crown champions in the flats

The 2013 IBA World Tour has been shut down, with two bodyboarders tied in the season rankings. What could be done to crown a fair champion?

It is one of the worst nightmares in the history of professional bodyboarding. Fans are disappointed and angry. Only the Hawaiian, Australian, Chilean and Brazilian stages were successfully completed.

Ben Player and Amaury Lavernhe would dispute the world title at the Fronton Challenge, but the event was cancelled only two weeks before the beginning of its waiting period.

Now what? Is it fair to crown a champion based on last year's results? No. Is the International Bodyboarding Association lacking pragmatic, innovative ideas? Yes. Here are a few possible solutions for the problem:

1. A super final between Ben Player and Amaury Lavernhe, in neutral waves;
2. To crown two world champions for 2013;
3. Setting up a crowd funded special event open to all Grand Slam Series riders;
4. Declare no winner for the 2013 IBA World Tour season;
5. Decide the champion based on the highest heat scores clinched by each rider, in 2013;
6. Decide the champion based on the highest wave score clinched by each rider, in 2013;
7. Ask International Surfing Association (ISA) to hold a special event;

The worst error is to keep silent, while the international bodyboarding community waits impatiently for a solution. Ben Player or Amaury Lavernhe? How will we untie the rope?
