Pierre-Louis Costes has taken out the 2019 Arica Cultura Bodyboard, at Flopos, in Chile.

The finals day got underway in perfect conditions for high-performance competitive bodyboarding.

The French rider defeated Tanner McDaniel by a very narrow margin - 0.25 points - in pristine six-foot waves, at the iconic Chilean surf break.

"I'm still on cloud nine. It was such an incredible competition, and making the final against Tanner was a crazy scenario," said Costes.

"Last year was pretty intense. I lost with 19 points to two 10-point rides. He is the future, and probably the best rider in the world."

"To have the opportunity to have another battle with him was a blessing, and to win this one was crazy. I live for this."

"We did almost all the moves we can do in bodyboarding. Starting with a 9.5 from Tanner, there's not much you can do after that. I knew I had to surf well. We were not looking for sevens; we were after excellent scores," concluded Costes.

APB World Tour's 2019 South American leg is over.

The world's best prone wave riders will now travel to Australia for the Kiama Bodyboard King Pro, in New South Wales.
