Sharks: stay out

At least one large shark has been spotted swimming close to shore, near The Box, in Australia. White pointers are threatening the second event of the IBA Grand Slam Series.

The organizers of The Box Pro have decided to postpone the competition for a day. The great white shark is one of the primary predators of marine mammals and is known for its deadly attack.

"Our priority is running the competition in the best possible waves and with conditions looking marginal today, the confirmed shark sightings made the decision a little bit easier for us", says IBA Tour Manager, Terry McKenna.

There are 64 bodyboarders ready and anxious to hit the international trials, but safety comes first. Just eight trialists will earn seeds into the main event of The Box Pro, which consists of the top 21 riders in the world, plus three wildcards.

Local Ryan Hardy is ranked among the best and, with home field advantage, the 31 year-old is a strong favorite heading into the $30,000 tournament.

All the action from The Box Pro will be available live. Australian viewers can also tune into Fuel TV.
