Wedge Classic: always prestigious

The much anticipated SABA Wedge Classic is the 3rd event and final event before S.A Champs on the prestigious 2010 South African Bodyboarding Association circuit with points counting towards the crowning of the year end SABA champions. The event will be held between 5th and 11th July.

Carrying a splendid 5A rating, the highest rated event this year, the Classic is expected to attract over 150 entrants and many of SA’s best bodyboarders from around the country to battle it out for valuable SABA points, prize money and of course the coveted “King of the Wedge” title.

The contest is the longest standing event in South Africa and 2010 will be its 16th year. Held at the Wedge in Plettenberg Bay, one of SA’s most desirable bodyboarding venues, the Classic is a firm favourite on tour, always delivering on the fun factor for competitors and spectators alike.

At this particular surf spot, the waves break so close to the beach, that it offers spectators an ideal view. The beach is buzzing throughout the entire contest and there is an atmosphere that can only be described as, "The Wedge Classic".

The Wedge is known for its unpredictable nature and a lot will depend on the forces of Mother Nature as to whether the swell that all the riders are hoping for, arrives. The Wedge seems to favour a solid south-west ground swell which seems to produce the insane waves that make the Wedge so famous and unique.
