Keiki Ocean Fest: serious bodyboarding competition

The third annual Keiki Ocean Fest was held yesterday in extremely fun surf at Waimanlo bay beach park. Oahu’s youth showed up in full force ranging from 4 to 15 years of age. The weather report lead the events volunteers to believe that the event could be a rain out.

However Mother Nature had different plans for the Keiki’s and provide sun and waves for all. With only a sprinkle mid morning the rest of the day was amazing, sunny and with fun swell for large turn out on hand.

The Keiki Ocean Fest is like one big family and this year we had a good amount of new faces added to the growing Ohana. The talent at the Keiki Oceanfest was impressive. Both eastside locals and visiting Leedward, Town and Northshore Keiki ripped their way through the day. The entire field was treated to a free lunch by Wahoo’s Fish Tacos and Keneke’s, which fueled them for big performance

Standouts outs of the event came in the form of Blain (father) and Quixion (Child) Andrews busting full air rolls in the Tandem Division which lead them to the win.

The girls where shredding and Saydi Smuth had the moves to take her to the win. In the 13-15 division Kealii Alapai edged out last years winner Brandon Amaya with big rolls and combos.

The highly competitive 12 and under division was taken by Shaydon Wolfe for the second year and a row with Kawika Kamai coming in a close second. All the competitors showed amazing talent and stoke for the sport of Bodyboarding and it seems Oahu’s bodyboarding heritage is in good hands.

All competitors walked away with prizes and every finalists (18) where given a new board so they tear up the waves during rest of the school summer holidays.

Good times is what the Keiki Ocean fest is all about and once again our goal was accomplished, which is to have as much fun as possible with the new era of Oahu’s Bodyboarders. Mahalo to all or sponsors for making it another great year for the Keiki of Oahu.
