Jake Metcalfe: hitting the lip in Western Australia

The SunSmart WA Bodyboard Titles 2013 will be hitting Mandurah, in Australia, between 6th-7th April.

Western Australia's best bodyboarders have been fine tuning their skills over summer in hopes of qualifying for the WA State Bodyboard Team, which will head to the Australasian National Titles, later in 2013.

"The new generation of bodyboarders are really stepping it up here in the West. For a long time bodyboarders have been seen as the little brother to surfing, but to have some massive names of the sport involved this weekend is truly exciting", explains Justin Majeks, Surfing WA events manager.

The opening event is set to take place at the Mandurah Wedge, which is widely considered to be the best high-performance bodyboard break in the country.

The spot has become a "mecca" for many bodyboarders and will attract a stellar field of new and exciting entrants, including Ryan Hardy, Chad Jackson, George Humphreys, Davis Blackwell, Jake Metcalfe and Brad Hughes, keen to face the challenge this unique location offers.

"The quality of the wave is what has drawn me back, it's such an unbelievable set up that it demands your best. The swell forecast is looking unreal and to compete against the best young local guys is going to be really exciting", adds Ryan Hardy.
