Amaury Lavernhe: hitting the invert aerial button

Dave Winchester keeps protecting his world title chase, after securing a place in the Round 3 of the Encanto Pro, in Puerto Rico.

Bumpy 4-6-foot surf was enough to complete Round 2 of Men's and Drop Knee, as well as Round 3 of the Women's competition.

The clean conditions and low tide early in the day, provided Round 1 of the Mens GSS with high scoring barreling waves. Standouts included Magno Passos, Dave Winchester, Jeff Hubbard and Jared Houston, all holding a heat score of 16.00 or higher out of a possible 20 points.

Passos had no trouble launching one huge ARS after another to collect the highest heat score of the day 17.28 points Winchester, Hubbard and Houston took to the sky with an array of high-flying inverts to win their heats.

Of the eight trialists, only Martin Mouradian, Renato Arellano and the Hawaiian Jacob Romero all placing 2nd in their respective Round 1 heats to skip Round 2 and secure their spots in Round 3.

In the Women's draw, Sari Ohhara, Ruth Parra, Mayumi Tone and local talent Natasha Sagardia dominated Round 3 today, all advancing into Round 4 with convincing heat wins. Sagardia is matched up against Round 3 survivor Akiko Sato and high seeds Maira Viana and Alejandra Altuve in Round 4.

Maymui Tone had the judges on their feet with one of the biggest off the lip maneuvers of the event thus far, a huge close-out roll on a 6 foot set. Tone will face her fellow country woman Ayaka Susuki and seeded riders, Anne Lacoste and local girl Maylene Rivera in Round 4.

Peru's Kiko Galdos stamped his authority over the rest of the Round 3 DK competitors today,  showing exceptional power and control with big arcing turns. Daniel Alves, Alberto Colluci and local rider Javier Delgado also managed to claim victory in Round 3 and will meet up with the top seeds in Round 4.
