The 10th anniversary of the World Bellyboard Championships will be celebrated at Chapel Porth beach, Cornwall, UK, on the 2nd September 2012.
Competitors from around the globe and up the hill make the pilgrimage to the north Cornish coast to enjoy the art of riding traditional wooden boards.
The event is organized and hosted by the National Trust and promises a lot of new features in 2012. There will be a photo shoot for all riders, expression sessions and divisions for Seniors, Youngsters and Juniors.
The World Belly Boarding Championship (WBBC) was first started in 2002 at Chapel Porth by Martyn Ward and Chris Ryan as a memorial contest to the late Arthur Traveller, a Londoner who was a regular visitor with his wooden board at Chapel Porth.
From humble beginnings with only a handful of competitors it has now grown into the World Championships we see today with over 300 surfers.
From the beginning it has been a very simple, back-to-basics comp - no wetsuits, no leashes and no swim fins. A bit of wood and a swimsuit is all you need.
