Obama oil drilling plan: not the answer

Is this the progress you voted for? More oil drilling will not solve our energy problems. Please urge President Obama to protect our coasts from offshore drilling.

Last week, the Obama administration announced a new plan to allow offshore drilling and exploration in federal waters (from 3 miles to 200 miles offshore) in the mid-Atlantic, eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska. This is major news because it marks the reversal of our domestic offshore drilling policy for the first time in almost 30 years.

From 1982 through 2008 there was both a Congressional and an Executive moratorium on federal offshore drilling and exploration. The moratoriums maintained bipartisan support over the years until gas prices spiked during the summer of 2008 and offshore drilling became a partisan election year issue.

We are entering a new era of offshore drilling and exploration, one that will surely drive lively debate. Stay up to date with all the latest information on our Not the Answer website.
