The spot “l’Embarcadere”, located in La Tranche-sur-Mer, almost disappeared. Indeed, in order to help access for sailors, the construction of a breakwater was foreseen and it threatened the spot.

This wave is well-known among all surfers of the Atlantic Coast because of its exceptional quality for beginners thanks to the safety it offers.

The Town Hall of La Tranche-sur-Mer had transferred the request of Maupas Plaisance association to the Maritime Equipment Local Direction for the set up of a break wave. The Local Direction gave an unfavorable response to this request.

The combined actions of Surfrider Foundation Europe, Surf Session magazine and Ocean Surf Report allowed to the mobilization of the public opinion through a petition against this project. This conflict opposed sailors and surfers; the interests at stakes were reviewed and the spot was saved!

Thanks to everyone who was involved in this file with our Keepers of the Coast! Join Surfrider! We need you to be efficient on the field!

The Eco-Surfboard auction is not the only fundraising auction helping to raise money for SAS next week!

UK kitesurf champion and PKRA World Tour rider Johara Sykes-Davies was pondering over some questionable items floating past her one day, and decided to get together with SAS and the Turbulence Extreme Sports crew to give us at SAS a hand.

An original Krunk carbon twin tip board from Fuerteventura, kindly donated by Charlie from Flexifoil Kites, has accompanied Johara to every 2008 PKRA event and all the PKRA riders, event crew, plus some other kiting celebrities have signed the one side of the board and stickered the other.

The board has been encased by North Walian carpenter Derek 'Degsy' Link and is surrounded by photos of its journey.

The board will be auctioned through eBay between Tuesday 21st and Tuesday 28th October 08.

Surfboard Bags

The board bags are made from sustainable hemp, which grows without pesticides and herbicides and is one of the toughest fibres on the planet. It's also UV resistant and mould resistant.

On top of this, these bags keep your board 10 degrees cooler than most other bags.

They're padded using recycled plastic bottles (PE) and have a padded shoulder strap, no-rust zipper, pocket for fin/leash/wax, extended adjustable tail, card window, outside travel pocket, extra padding on the nose and tail and a 1 year guarantee.

They come in two great colours (Sapphire Blue and Natural), four sizes (6'6", 7'6", 8'6" & 9'6") and prices start at £50.

"We also stock the world's only recycled surf leash made with a 100% recycled urethane cord - the leash offers the best of all worlds: comfort, strength, reliability, and sustainability".

The ultra-modern double swivel combined with the reinforced webbing on the neoprene strap and heavy duty velcro all combine to make one tough board saver and the double lined padded neoprene gives exceptional comfort.
