Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest: when amateur riders become pros | Photo: David Oby

The 14th Annual Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest will gather the best amateur kiteboarders on the Columbia River Gorge, between 25th-27th July, 2014.

The longest running amateur kiteboarding contest in the USA has historically been a launching pad for amateur kiteboarders attempting to become professionals.

The Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest will feature five categories of amateur riders: Men, Women, Grom, Lady Groms and Masters. Pro Men and Women will have their own contest.

The steep riverbanks make the Port of Skamania's East Point Kite Beach a natural grandstand for watching the event.

Contestants will attempt to impress the judges with their freestyle maneuvers that will be judged on difficulty, style, height, variety, sportsmanship and overall impression.

The 2014 edition will also feature a Grom Training Program, in which kite instructors will share tips and train 12-to-18 year old adventurers.

Rob Bain, Layne Beachley, and Dave Macaulay have taken out the Azores Airlines World Masters Championship in the Grand Masters, Women's Masters and Men's Masters divisions held in good three-foot surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.
