Kye Evans: the 2016/2017 National Kiteboarding League champion

Kye Evans has taken out the 2016/2017 National Kiteboarding League (NKL) Grand Final at Narrowneck Beach, in the Gold Coast, Australia.

The final event of the Australian kiteboarding season got underway in strong northern winds and featured the best riders in the country fighting for freestyle and big air titles.

Evans, from the Sunshine Coast, has finally raised the dream trophy after years of intense training.

"I remember my first nationals I finished dead last. I'm so thankful for all the great memories I have made along the way! I guess it goes to show that nothing is impossible if you want something so badly go get it!" expressed Evans.

In the big air competition, Jesse Bruinsma, 23, took his skill to a higher level. The Dutch kiteboarder wasn't expecting to win the event.

"I arrived in Melbourne to go on a road trip but this came onto my path, and now I'm here. It's really cool. I won $200, so I'm really happy, and I was planning on going to Brisbane anyway," added Bruinsma.

The 2017/2018 Classic Holidays NKL season has already been confirmed.
