Nick Jacobsen has broken the fibula of his right leg in South Africa.
The Danish kiteboarder was training for the upcoming 2018 Red Bull King of the Air when the accident and the injury occurred.
"We were two hours up the coast when it happened. Graham Howes, Leandra, and Darryl Partington took me straight to the hospital. It was painful, and I'd rather spend five hours in the dentist's chair, but I'm glad I have the best friends and greatest support around me," told Jacobsen.
Nick has arguably been the most in-form and creative kiteboarder of the past 12 months. He risked his life several times performing unbelievable jumps and unusual kite flights, but he also found time on his agenda to conquer the 2017 Red Bull King of the Air.
Jacobsen was ready to defend his title this year at Kite Beach, but the injury will put him out of the prestigious big air kitesurfing event.
"Graham and I have been driving and exploring new places and kited new spots around the Cape, in South Africa, for the past three weeks. Last year, Kevin Langeree reminded me not to get injured, but I guess I didn't listen."
Nick Jacobsen will undergo surgery to repair his broken fibula. He hopes to be "up and flying in no time" and ready to storm the world kiteboarding with another death-defying stunt.
The fibula supports and stabilizes the ankle and the lower leg muscles. Depending on the type of fracture, the Danish rider may be out of the water between 12 and 16 weeks.
