Gisela Pulido: riding Jaws on a medium-sized day

Spanish kitesurfer Gisela Pulido had her first kitesurfing session at Peahi, on the North Shore of Maui, Hawaii.

The 24-year-old rider kicked off her new adventure - the Big Wave Challenge - in the iconic Hawaiian surf break. In 2018, Pulido aims to surf the world's biggest waves.

"What a day! I have no words to describe how I feel right now! Jaws is one of the most amazing waves on Earth. I was dreaming of this moment so much, and I can't believe it finally happened," expressed Pulido.

The 10-time world kiteboarding champion won't be competing in the World Tour this year because she wants to focus on the big waves.

"It was my first time here. Initially, I didn't know where to position, and where the best waves were. I was a bit lost," reveals Gisela Pulido.

"But then I saw other windsurfers and Olivia, who was also riding her kite, and got into the critical zone and nailed it. Now, I want to get back to it in bigger conditions!"

Gisela Pulido also plans to surf Nazaré's Praia do Norte, in Portugal. By the end of the year, she may become the first ever female kitesurfer to ride the most challenging waves on the planet.
