Water sports are growing in China and local enthusiasts are watching the first professional competitions in the territory.

China's National Kitesurfing Championships are being held in Qingdao, a major city in eastern Shandong province.

There are 40 sailors competing in a five-day event. The Chinese kitesurfers will battle for a 1000 metre speed race challenge.

Rob Bain, Layne Beachley, and Dave Macaulay have taken out the Azores Airlines World Masters Championship in the Grand Masters, Women's Masters and Men's Masters divisions held in good three-foot surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.
