Festival del Viento: Mexican kiteboarding dreams

The Festival del Viento 2012 is going to return to Bucerias, Nayarit, in Mexico, between 18th-20th May. The best kiteboarders of the Mexican states, such as Colima, Baja, Merida, Sinaloa and Jalisco.

The third edition of Festival del Viento will display a classic Freestyle competition, but the organization is also planning a Downwind Slalom contest and a long distance race for those seeking kiteboarding marathons.

The Downwind Slalom is scheduled to link La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Bucerias, in an exciting six-kilometre track. The weather conditions are great in May and all riders should expect warm temperatures and 20-knot winds.

Last year, the Freestyle category of the Festival del Viento was dominated by Juan Pablo Maytorena, in the Open division, Luis Aviña, in the National division and by Warenka Smutny, in the Women's division.

Bucerias is a small fishing village located in Nayarit. Experience the colours of Mexico, the incredible tasty food, the warm beaches and beautiful people by joining Festival del Viento.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
