KSP World Tour: freestyle wave kitesurfing

The International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) has announced the qualification system format for the upcoming 2013 Kite Surf Pro (KSP) World Championship Tour.

The governing body for the sport of kiteboarding wants a global challenge, with riders from five continents. The new wave kitesurfing world tour reflects the inclusion of more nations.

The 24 male kitesurfers of the 2013 KSP World Championship Tour will be seeded with the top 10 ranked riders from the 2012 rankings, one wildcard from the KSP and one from the IKA, as well as two wildcards announced per event.

The remaining 10 spots will be awarded to riders from nations that are not yet represented. If there are many nations applying, slots are given in the following order: South America, Europe, North America, Africa, Oceania and Asia.

The IKA executive committee may deviate from the order of regions and nations in order to ensure highest quality of the selected riders: competition experience, results and performance will be analyzed.

All applications need to be made until March 1st, 2013, on the KSW World Tour site.

On January 17, 2018, Portuguese big wave surfer Hugo Vau had a day he will remember for the rest of his life at Nazaré's Praia do Norte, in Portugal.
