Red Bull Aegean Cross: kiteboarders vs. windsurfers

More than 100 hundred kiteboarders and windsurfers will race for glory at the Red Bull Aegean Cross 2013, between August 26th-27th, in Greece and Turkey.

The Red Bull Aegean Cross starts at Alaçatı Çark Beach, turns back in Chios, Greece, and crosses the finish line back in Alaçatı.

Kiteboarders and windsurfers will do their best to get the upper hand over competitors. The Pro fleet will sail 20 miles (32 kilometers) of water, while the remaining riders will race 10 kilometers.

Winds in the region can hit 40 knots, adding high physical and mental challenges. Kiteboarders are allowed to use Twin race boards, while windsurfers can only sail with Slalom and Freeride boards.

The Red Bull Aegean Cross 2013 will crown an overall winner and the fastest sailors in the windsurfing and kiteboarding categories.

Last year's edition was conquered by Salih Aleksander Çakır, the Turkish national kitesurfing champion.

Now more than ever, surfers have a great responsibility on the shoulders. Here's what makes a complete, contemporary wave rider.
