The 2017 TwinTip:Racing European Championship tested a new competition format that will be used in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, in Argentina.
As a result, riders sailed 175 short races in a downwind slalom set-up with jumps. The event sanctioned by the International Kiteboarding Association got underway in the waters of Gizzeria, Italy.
There was some controversy about the refereeing concept with many kiteboarders demanding explanations for judging decisions on penalties for tangles or touches on obstacles to be jumped.

TEN Kiteboarding is a new brand born in the Netherlands.
The company founded by Dominique Kwaks, Eddy Lansink, Daan Groot and Guido Veldhuijzen aims to deliver "thoughtful products for kiteboarders."
The Dutch kitesurfing firm says it will produce not the latest, but the best technology, for a fair price. In other words, functional, durable and essential kite gear.

The world record holder for the longest non-stop kitesurfing journey, Francisco Lufinha, wants to connect the Azores to mainland Portugal.
The Portuguese kiteboarder plans to sail more than 809 nautical miles (1,500 kilometers) in between five to ten days.
Lufinha, 33, will try to complete the kite cross alongside Anke Brandt, a German kiteboarder who has already linked Bahrain and Abu Dhabi (303 miles or 489 kilometers) in 30 hours.
