Ben Wilson went on a kitesurfing trip to the Great Barrier Reef, and he found a few idyllic wave riding spots.
He presents himself as a big wave kitesurfer. And he couldn't be more right. In 2011, Ben Wilson scored what is widely considered the world's largest kitesurfing wave at Cloudbreak, Fiji.
Since then he taught the sport to thousands of first-time kiters, including pro surfer Mick Fanning and Josh Kerr.
But Wilson has many other interests. Recently, the Sunshine Coast resident embarked on a truly magical adventure through the Great Barrier Reef.
"What makes this place so incredible is that it's just out of reach, in terms of the distance that you've got to go, so it's uncrowded and there's not much pressure on it," explains Ben Wilson.
The Australian says he kite three times, and found a very special right-hander as he dove into the secrets hidden inside the Great Barrier Reef.
"It really is like a fair bit of extra effort to come on a trip like this because just getting out to our first spot today, we traveled 35 miles, and that was after we traveled five hours in the car."
The preparation for the trip was planned meticulously. Ben and his team wanted to make sure they had everything set up for the challenge, including checking the weather and wind conditions for their rides.
