Poetto Beach: Cagliari's kite spot

The 2014 Formula Kite Youth and Master Worlds are running between 12th-18th May, at Poetto Beach, in Cagliari, Italy.

More than 65 athletes from 25 nations will gather in Sardinia's capital to participate and to take their chances for the prestigious crown. The title contenders are many, and the competition level is high so great battles will be underway.

The event in Cagliari can be also an anticipation of getting kiteboarding in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as the sports keeps growing, and spreading out more stops and tours all over the world.

"A final decision might have to wait till 2017, but the IOC is very interested. They are also interested to include kiteboarding already in the Youth Olympic Games 2018, in Buenos Aires. We are waiting for an official letter from IOC," says Mirco Babini, president of the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA).

The Cagliari Kite Race World Championship 2014 is organized by the Cagliari Yacht Club.
