Ice and snow sailors crowned in Kalajoki

World Ice and Snow Surfing Championships: are they humans?

The World Ice and Snow Surfing Championships 2013 have crowned the best cold sails, kites and wings, in Kalajoki, Finland.

The event gathered specialists in several ice and snow sailing divisions: Slalom, Course Racing, Freestyle and GPS Speed.

The Freestyle competitors have also impressed the judges with their skills in frozen temperatures. Artem Garashchenko took the Freestyle Kiteboard division and also sealed the best trick of the entire event.

Alexander Larsson took the Kitewings Slalom and Course Racing gold medals, Igor Danilov conquered the Kiteboard Course Racing. Vladimir Kovalenko won the Kite Skis Course Racing trophy.

Andrey Khargovskiy, from Russia, won the Sailboards Course Racing title, while Janis Preiss sealed the overall victory in the Sailboards Slalom.

The fastest GPS Speed sailor was Oleg Cherkashin. The kiteboarder from Russian reached an incredible speed of 92,16 km/h, in the ice and snow of Kalajoki. The fastest sailboarder was Oskari Pääkkönen, from Finland, with 63,79 km/h.

The World Ice and Snow Surfing Championships 2014 will be organized in Quebec, Canada.
