Port Alfred: windy and wavy

A kiteboarder has died in Port Alfred, in South Africa.

The 66-year-old rider collapsed while kitesurfing at Eastern Beach.

"The man had reportedly collapsed unconscious, suspected to be from unknown medical causes, while kitesurfing with his son and fellow kite-boarders", underlined Craig Lambinon, spokesman for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).

He was brought to shore breathless and pulseless, and CPR immediately started on the beach. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed by bystanders before the NSRI arrived.

"On arrival on-scene our medics continued with the CPR efforts and our local multi-security control room were instrumental in summoning additional emergency medical support to respond to the scene," said Lambinon.

The man was transported to the hospital, where he would die even after extensive CPR efforts. Avoid kiteboarding all by yourself. Take a look at the basic kite rules.
