Lüderitz Speed Challenge: you do not need water to sail

The 2010 Lüderitz Speed Challenge will be the first event in the history of speed sailing to include the three different sailing disciplines - boat, windsurf and kitesurfing.

Namibia will host it from the 4th to the 31st of October 2010. Also, the newest addition is a channel of 700m in length, 10m in width and 1m in depth, which will be dug in the "Second Lagoon", one of the fastest kiteboarding spots in the world.

51.36 knots is the record to beat. All eyes are on l’Hydroptère, the hydrofoil boat. Sebastien Cattelan, speed kitesurfer and organizer of the Luderitz Speed Challenge 2010 believes the event will bring new world records.

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) will be sanctioning the event.
