Mario Rodwald: aiming for the sky

The wind conditions are fantastic and the kiteboarding spectacle is on. The 2010 PKRA New Caledonia is bringing many spectators to Noumea. The pro kiteboarders had a new interesting challenge called Big Air/Best Trick.

Judges would be scoring moves with the following criteria: 70% height and 30% technical difficulty.

Some riders decided to go with 7m kites but others went with 9m. Marc Jacobs was clearly the "man of the match" jumping extremely high and performing with great technical difficulty enabling him first place in the discipline followed by Youri Zoon in second and Maxime Landreau in third.

In the freestyle double elimination rounds, Michael Dinclaux eliminated most of the local riders, however was later defeated by Brazilian rider Reno Romeu. Alex Pastor will be advancing to the next round following his win over Sebastien Garat in a 5/0 judge’s decision.

Alberto Rondina eliminated Sebastien Nguyen and will be moving into the next set of heats tomorrow as well as Mario Rodwald who defeated Julien Kerneur in the last double elimination heat of the day. The double eliminations will resume tomorrow on the final day of competition here in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Big Air/Best Trick results:

1. Marc Jacobs (Switch, NZL)
2. Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED)
3. Maxime Landreau (Takoon, FRA)
