KTA China: Pingtan Island is full of kite fans

The Kiteboard Tour Asia (KTA) 2012/2013 season will crown the best kitesurfers in the Pingtan Island, in China.

Last year, more than 10,000 kiteboarding fans packed the sand beach of the Chinese island. Now, the overall Asian kite champions are about to get their hands in the titles.

Pingtan Island offers not only potentially some of the best winds for KTA, but also large wide sand beaches and stunning coastline.

The island itself is a mad mix of old style traditional stone buildings and the construction drive for the future making it a unique insight and experience of the contrasts of China today.

The 2013 KTA China will have 120 riders from all countries competing between May 8th-12th. The overall season rankings will have both Open and Asian titles being awarded.

Asian born riders get to be the actual Asian champions, while Open titles reflect the best riders on the KTA for the season, although both titles often end up in the hands of the same kiteboarder.

The KTA China is a 50-point ISAF World Ranking race event and a 410-point IKA Freestyle World Ranking event. The Asian Course Race Championships is being planned to take place in early November 2013, in Thailand.
