Rhys Gardner claims the 2009 SAKSA Wave Titles

We’ve been hanging out for some decent breeze for the 2009 SAKSA Wave Titles and Huey certainly delivered!

In 20-30 knot conditions and a 2ft swell, we kicked off the comp at Three Poles (Seaford) around 8:30am on Saturday and saw the northerly breeze crank through until Presentations at 2pm.

The Mens Open and Masters both got a 45 minute heat each and the Amatuers heat was cut short due to howling gusts. We had a short break and then sent out the cream of the crop for the Top 4 Masters and Top 4 Mens Open Final, followed by the Amatuers who again got some challenging rain affected conditions…

OPEN MENS:1st Rhys Gardner followed by Russ Curtin, Matty Tomkins & Travis Murphy
MASTERS: 1st Darren Wise followed by Bart Mascolo, Peter Morgan & Mark Gregg
AMATEURS: 1st Geoff Gent

A Top effort by all competitors. The winners are now eligible for the Nationals in Robe in October and our Titles Sponsorship will be covering their entry into that Nationals Competition.

On that note, events like this wouldn’t happen without the support of our Sponsors: Kite Shop and Onboard. They’ve been hugely supportive of the industry for a long time and it’s greatly appreciated.
The winner of the Firewire Board Raffle was Paul “Doolz” Dooley who we’re sure will be out there rippin’ and showing it off…

A massive thanks to everyone who came along. It was such a good vibe and there was no shortage of people helping out and getting involved. We are just so lucky to have a great group of people in the sport: some drive from Whyalla, some assist who don’t even kitesurf, and some chose to help out rather than get on the water themselves.

“Chopsy” Sellar again was cranking the tunes and charming the crowd with his ususal wit and running commentary. Fantastic effort.

Highlight of the day: The awesome turnout we had; competitors, spectators, beach helpers. Just a great day.
Lowlight of the day: Unfortunately the conditions were just too big for the Ladies and Juniors.

Rest assured, we will be holding another session for the Ladies and Juniors in the very near future; we’re also looking at our Wild Card options for the Nationals.
