Vake: when snow kiteboarding gets cool

The Varanger Arctic Kite Enduro 2013 will challenge the world's best snow kiteboarders, in Berlevåg, Norway, between 9th-13th April 2013.

The long distance snow kiteboarding world championship is a very tough winter sports event. More than 25 teams will have to kite 300 kilometers (186 miles), in three days.

The "Vake" is considered to be the world's longest, yet most beautiful snow kite challenge. It demands superior fitness condition and a focused mind. It has no marked tracks.

"I am going to do the long distance snow kiteboarding world championshi, again, this year. We were only two girl teams last year, so hopefully we'll get some more competition this year", says Camilla Ringvold.

To compete in the Varanger Arctic Kite Enduro 2013, you must have good kiting skills, physical strength and the experience to survive a storm and the right equipment.

Sleds and backpacks, kite and skiing equipment, protection, safety equipment, VHF radio or walkie talkie. All riders must have a list of mandatory and recommended gear in order to participate in the Varanger Arctic Kite Enduro 2013.
