Baker: producing legendary skateboard videos since 1998

The Baker Skateboards video series is a collection of timeless and iconic skate stunts that helped shape the sport and its unique culture.

From the first to the latest Baker video, much has changed.

Movies went from the classic VHS tapes and DVDs to the purely digital streaming era in less than two decades.

The world changed, and skateboarding evolved, too.

Many of today's skate stars grew up watching the video parts from their idols in Baker video productions.

The idiosyncratic collection of hardcore, excentric, and rebellious footage released by Baker would never be what it is today without its founding duo.

Andrew Reynolds and Jay Strickland gave birth to a legacy skateboard video series that will inspire generations to come.

Reynolds started skateboarding at the age of nine in his hometown of Lakeland, Florida.

When he was still a teenager, he got a phone call from Tony Hawk asking him to ride for Birdhouse.

After the phone call, Reynolds moves out to California to film for the iconic video "The End," a full-length feature skateboard film in which he performs a perfect buttery kickflip noseblunt.

The video catapults him to stardom.

Andrew Reynolds wins "Skater of the Year," makes it on the cover of several skate magazines, and eventually earns a spot on "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" video games.

At this time, the Floridian was already living in a house with Birdhouse riders.

Jay Strickland was the Birdhouse team manager, filmmaker, photographer, and artist.

Jay and Andrew met while shooting for the iconic video "The End" and became great friends.

After "The End," Strickland wanted to share and show unedited footage and behind-the-scenes clips of Birdhouse's video that had not been released.

So, Jay and Reynolds worked on the raw, uncut footage and b-roll to create the legendary "Baker Bootleg," which also became a brand.

The video features footage that they filmed for their sponsors and pranks from downtown Los Angeles.

The video was a hit and became an instant classic.

In 2000, the duo got together and launched "Baker 2G," another highly successful film with plenty of high jinks.

Immediately after, several skaters left their sponsors and joined Baker Bootleg.

The new skater brand was the go-to company - a place where everyone felt at home and could experience true friendship and camaraderie.

"Bake is very honest - it's who we are," Andrew Reynolds once said.

Meanwhile, Ryan Ewing becomes Baker's official filmer, and Reynolds and Strickland split.

That's when Jay carries on with Bootleg Skateboard Co., and Andrew takes Baker Skateboards.

The original Baker duo has broken up, but the seeds for the Baker DNA were already sprouting and growing on the concrete.

In 20 years, the skateboarding world would witness the launch of ten peculiar, creative, and influential videos.
